Synagogues of the South was made possible by generous contributions from Raymond Lifchez, Irene O. Rosenthall, the Texas Jewish Historical Society, the Stanley B. Farbstein Endowment and the Saul Alexander Foundation at the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina, the Charleston Jewish Federation, the Nathan and Marlene Addlestone Foundation, and the College of Charleston’s Pearlstine/Lipov Center for Southern Jewish Culture (CSJC).
Produced under the auspices of CSJC and Addlestone Library’s Jewish Heritage Collection (JHC), the online exhibition was curated by architectural historian Samuel D. Gruber, who researched and wrote all the essays and postcard entries, with collaboration from JHC’s Dale Rosengarten and Alyssa Neely. The creative team included copy editor Mary Beth Hinton and Nimble Design Team’s Su Schaer and Umberto Zanesi, along with assistance from D5 Media.
